Wedding Suit and Tie Inspiration at TiesRUs

When it comes to weddings – whether you’re attending as a guest, a member of the wedding party or even as the groom – choosing the perfect suit and tie can be a difficult task. On such a special day you understandably want to look your best, which is why here at TiesRUs we’ve decided to lend a helping hand. Read on for a helpful guide to all of your wedding suit options, along with the best ties to pair them with on the big day.

    1

    Grey suit.

Grey suits – particularly charcoal grey – make a great, versatile choice. Grey is a colour that is suitable for all year round but works particularly well for a summer wedding. Grey is flattering: it compliments most colours it is paired with and looks good on anybody. In terms of ties, pastels or earthy tones look great with grey – this leaf green skinny satin tie is perfect.

    2

    Black suit.

Black is a great, classic option. It is sophisticated, timeless and easy to coordinate. When it comes to accessories, avoid bold colours as this may come across too harsh. Instead, team with a light shirt and waistcoat, and a pastel tie or cravat to soften the look. This peach cravat and matching pocket square would work particularly well for a wedding.

    3

    Navy blue suit.

For something a little different yet still sophisticated, sharp and classic, opt for a navy blue suit. Navy blue is the perfect alternative to black, offering a modern and stylish look whilst still remaining traditional. Navy looks particularly striking with contrasting colours, for example a navy blue suit and waistcoat teamed with a stylish skinny burgundy tie.

    4

    Mid blue suit.

For a stylish and on-trend colour, opt for a mid blue suit. Mid blue is very in fashion right now, but you have to be careful how you style it in order to keep the look sophisticated. We’d recommend choosing a simple colour palette when it comes to the rest of your outfit, to avoid a colour overload. A mid blue suit alongside a subtle grey waistcoat and a pale blue tie is perfect – it is current, coordinated and on-trend, without being too over the top.

    5

    Tweed / brown suit.

A brown or tweed suit is great for an outdoor or countryside wedding, and opens up your options when it comes to the rest of your outfit. With brown or tweed you can afford to be a little more adventurous – this is one case where patterned shirts or ties can make an appearance without looking garish. Mix up your look with suspenders or a bow tie – this champagne and white polka dot tie is ideal for a smart and stylish wedding look.

    Shades of Blue

We’ve discussed colour many times before here at Ties R Us – after all it is a proven fact that wearing different colours gives off different signals, evokes different emotions and can even change your look completely. Trying to find the ‘right’ colour for your tie can often be difficult – if you do get stuck, we blue is a great choice. Considered the “all-purpose” tie colour, a shade of blue is one of the safest options you can go for due to just how versatile it can be.

Blue can mean many different things; it is calm and relaxed, yet professional and credible, making it an appropriate choice for a multitude of occasions. Here at Ties R Us we have a large selection of blue ties and handkerchiefs to choose from in many different shades – here’s just a few of our favourites:

    Navy Textured Classic Men’s Tie

Navy is a colour that is often worn by pilots, evoking images of professionalism and respect, making this the ideal shade to impress at a job interview or show authority at work. Navy blue is a great “power tie” shade – it is less threatening and aggressive than a red tie, yet still conveys the same feelings of confidence and credibility.

  • 10 Ways to Upcycle Your Tie

10 Ways to Upcycle Your Tie

    BreakfastBuffet

Similarly to any fashions, ties can go out of style. We’re all guilty of wanting to keep on top of current trends and therefore old ties can end up neglected, thrown in the back of a drawer and forgotten about.
A tie, however, can often hold sentimental value. Maybe it’s a tie you wore for a special occasion – a memorable wedding, perhaps – or even the old tie of a lost loved one. You may no longer want to wear it, but also don’t want to leave it forgotten. Here at Ties R Us we have a creative solution – upcycling! With simple DIY you can create something completely new and unique, so you can continue to get use from any ties you no longer wear.

Here are 10 fun ideas for ways to upcycle your old ties:

    • Headband.
One for the ladies – use an old tie to make a ladies or girls tie-around headband. The easiest of all the DIYs to do, as you don’t actually need to do anything! You can trim the tie down to size if you wish, or add accessories (think stick on bows or flowers) – otherwise, simply tie around the head and voila! One new headband at no extra cost from you.
    • Luggage tag
Turn your old tie into a fabric luggage tag. All you need is scissors, thread and a button to attach the strap. This easy and effective DIY leaves you with a unique luggage tag, meaning your belongings are instantly recognisable – so no more double checking that you’re picking up the right luggage!
    • Tie quilt.
One for the craftier types out there – use old ties to make a patchwork style quilt. This works well when you have a lot of ties, and can look effective with a mish-mash of different styles. This is a DIY that can become a long-term project and potentially span generations, with more ties being added over time.
    • Mini bunting
This is a neat and easy DIY for if you have a large collection of ties. Simply cut off near the bottom of the tie and attach to some string to make unique and fun bunting decorations.
    • Phone / gadget case.
You can turn your old tie into an attractive phone or gadget case with a simple bit of sewing. Check out this Youtube video from Tiffany Threadgould for detailed instructions.

    • Neck tie owl.
Use an old tie to make an adorable little owl. This DIY takes advantage of the natural shape of a tie – you simply need to cut an extra triangle a couple of inches from the bottom, pointing in the same direction as the tie. The triangle shape you’ve cut acts as the ears for your owl, and you can sew on buttons for eyes. You could then add stuffing to make an owl toy, or a pin on the back to make a unique fabric owl broach.
    • Shoelaces.
Cut your tie into thin strips and use as shoelaces. This quick and easy DIY works especially well with bright or patterned ties, giving a fun and unique touch to your shoes.
    • Coffee cosy.
We’re all familiar with the cardboard coffee holders we get with take-out coffees – why not try making your own from an old tie? More attractive than cardboard and great for keeping your drink warm and protecting your hands, all you have to do is cut down to size and attach a button to create your own unique coffee cosy.
    • Snake toy.
The shape of a tie works perfectly to create a fun snake toy and it couldn’t be easier to do, making this the perfect DIY for kids to get involved with too. Simply stuff with cotton wool, sew up the ends and add a felt tongue and buttons for eyes (be sure to sew on the eyes rather than gluing if this is a toy for a child). And there you have it – one quick and easy snake toy that the kids are sure to love!
    • Necklace
This is a great DIY for ties with a paisley or floral pattern – turn them into an attractive fabric necklace! Check out this Youtube video from DIY Projects for a detailed tutorial.

  • Colours For Spring

    Colours For Spring

The frost is beginning to melt, days are slowly getting that little bit longer – it is officially nearly spring! Spring marks the transition from bare trees and cold winter days to the reintroduction of colour, whether this appears in the form of brighter days and blooming spring flowers or in our wardrobes. It is time to ditch the rich and earthy tones we love to wear over the autumn / winter months and look at the subtle pastels of spring.

    Here at Ties R Us we have a vast array of ties that we think would be perfect to add that subtle pop of colour to any spring event. Whatever look you want to go for, from traditional to skinny or bow ties, we have it covered. We even have a large selection of boys ties for any younger members of the family wanting a smarten up for a special occasion. Here are some colours we think would be perfect for the spring months;

    Green

Move away from the earthy greens of autumn and the festive greens of winter and instead opt for a soft pastel or mint green. Our sage, mint or avocado ties are ideal for bringing a soft splash of colour to a formal outfit, and look especially good when paired with a grey suit.

    Rose

Rose is a colour that is going to be huge in Spring 2016 – it is gentle, light and fashionable. Here at Ties R Us we have a perfect light pink paisley tie to bring you bang on-trend this season.

    Lilac

Whereas purple is a colour that may be a touch too dark for a spring affair, its pastel counterpart lilac will work perfectly. It reflects the fresh, cool and clean elements of spring while still managing to bring colour to a more formal look. Try this subtly striped lilac tie, ideal for a spring wedding or christening!

    Yellow

If you aren’t one for subtlety, yellow is one colour you can always get away with in spring. Daffodils, baby chicks, the sun; yellow is a spring colour that can definitely be worn bright! Our bright yellow tie is available in a variety of styles and is guaranteed to brighten up any outfit.

Of course this is just a small selection of what we have to offer at Ties R Us. We have many other high quality ties throughout our site in the perfect pastel and spring shades, and as they’re all available in a variety of sizes and styles there’s bound to be one to suit you and your event. Happy browsing!

  • The Colours of 2016

    The Colours of 2016

With each year comes new colours of the year, something that is predicted to be big, and in 2016 it’s rose quartz & serenity. While we’re guessing many of you won’t be too sure what colour that is at Ties R Us we’re here to help! The apparent rose quartz & serenity is a blend of subtle pink and subdued blues, creating a colour that is perfect to immerse yourself in if you want to relax. As far as fashion and clothing is concerned it might be a bit difficult to get a rose quartz & serenity coloured tie, bow tie, cravat etc. So we’re giving our advice on similar colours which we think are going to work well in 2016, because what’s life without bending the rules a little bit…

In a year where subtle and pastel colours are clearly going to reign supreme at Ties R Us we’ve picked out a selection of some exceptional colours of ties that we think should definitely be part of your wardrobe for the year to come!

    Pink

As rose quartz & serenity, the official colour of 2016, is a pink mix, a pale coloured pink is an excellent way to join in with the trend. The subtle pink colour works incredibly well when paired with a grey and dark blue suit. The fact that pink is for girls is very much a thing of the past, don’t be afraid to add a bit of pale pink to your outfit!

    Light Blue

The other element to rose quartz & serenity is a sort of light blue, while we may not have a rose quartz coloured tie, a light blue one will work excellent in its place! A perfect colour for the spring season, and adds a real fresh look to any suit or shirt and trousers.

    Purple

Another excellent pastel and relaxing colour. Very much going to be a prominent colour in 2016, a subtle purple tie is incredibly stylish, and the perfect choice for a wedding or christening! The warmth of the colour will work well in the coming warmer months and seasons.

Of course staple colors such as reds, greens and silvers are always a firm favourite with many, so it might be worth notig that mixing the colours of 2016 with one of these colours is always a winning combination! Take a look in our multi-colour section for more styles!

  • Colours For Winter

    Colours For Winter

Winter is well and truly on its way, the weather seems to be dramatically dropping and the nights are getting longer, so it’s about time you got into your comfy clothes and chilled! Or another way to look at it is Christmas will soon be upon us, and with Christmas comes an influx of parties. A lot of people will opt for the idyllic winter wedding, hoping for a perfect backdrop of a white wonderland, or many might want to have the christening of their latest around one of the holiest times of year, so are you and your formal wardrobe ready?

Depending on if you’re a bow-tie or a neck-tie person will obviously go for which look you’re after. Why not take a look at the colourings of all your ties and formal accessories and see if they might be a bit bright and warm for the winter months. At Ties R Us were all about using our expert knowledge to help you to customise your suit in the best of winter colouring, effortlessly creating an extremely stylish appearance ready for any events you may be going to.

    Blue

A typical wintery colour, an ice blue tie or bow-tie can really stand out as an eye-catching feature. But why not try to mix and match blues, a darker blue tie with a powder blue or bright blue pocket square. Just because it’s a dark season doesn’t mean that everything you wear needs to be drab! Brighter blue is an excellent way to bring an outfit together, especially against a grey or dark blue suit.

    Silver

Silver always has been and will continue to be a classy colour, guaranteed to add a touch of style to a formal outfit in the form of a tie. A bold silver colour gives that added sparkle to your outfit, and at Ties R Us we’ve got a whole host in a range of incredible materials. If you want to blend in, but still keep that traditional wintery/cold colour, try a duller silver bordering almost towards grey.

    Gold

Is there a more Christmassy related colour available? A touch of gold will brighten up any formal attire and look great in the process. Ideal colouring for a wedding or party around Christmas time and can provide the perfect colour for a the whole of a wedding party. Try mixing it up and pairing it with a silver pocket square if you’re feeling brave!

  • Find Your Perfect Colour & Style Of Tie

Find Your Perfect Colour & Style Of Tie

When coming to pick out a colour or style of tie for an occasion it can become a tricky affair, well here at Ties R Us, we’re hoping to help. Our tips on which style suits the occasion and your suit better to what colour blend well with each others and how to avoid a clash and ruin what could potentially be a big day in your life.

    Weddings

A wedding is probably going to be the biggest day of your life, if it’s yours that is your wedding, but even if you’re part of the wedding ensemble finding the right colour is key. Obviously, having the groom, his best man and ushers all in the same coloured tie is the best way to go, we’d recommend a traditional cut tie rather than a skinny one. Try and tick with the traditional rich colours you would usually expect from a wedding, so cream, gold, silver and lilac are all real winners. Alternatively, you could have the groom in one colour and have the rest of the party in a contrasting colour, for example a gold tie for the groom so he stands out with the rest in a silver tie. If you’re just attending a wedding don’t be afraid to go for the a patterned tie to really bring your outfit together though, they look great with all suit colours.

    Prom

With it being a prom, it’s usually going to be a first suit so likeliness is it will be a skinner cut one, which are all the trend lately. With that being said a skinny tie is the obvious choice for a prom, it gives off a younger vibe and looks great. Patterned and striped ties work very well in a prom setting, with bolder colours coming through, so think green, red, blue and silver at a push, depending on the colour of your suit.

    Interviews and Formal Parties

Again the skinny tie looks great in both of these settings, but obviously tailored to what job you’re applying for as to how bold of a colour to wear, subdued and subtle colours are always a winner. As for formal parties depending on the theme you can never go wrong with a darker coloured tie, they look great paired with any colour

    Colour Of Your Suit

Depending on the colour of your suit is what colour tie and hanky we would recommend, there are some colours that work extremely well against each other but some that should be avoided.

Blue Suit: For a blue suit, most being a darker shade, we’d recommend a bold colour or patterned tie. Think red, purple, orange, green and silver.

Black Suit: A black suit can be tricky as you’d easily get away with a black tie on a white shirt, but usually that’s a look reserved for a funeral, but then again in certain party themes you may be on to a winner. Again, think bolder block coloured ties, like red, orange, silver and don’t be afraid to try a pink one, also a brilliant white tie looks excellent against a black shirt!

Grey Suit: You can never go wrong colour wise with a grey suit and it’s a good excuse to wear colours that wouldn’t work with other coloured suits, such as yellows and peaches, but also stripped ties and gold black and blue colours contrast very well against a light or dark grey suit.

  • Mix And Match Ties & Pocket Squares

Mix And Match Ties & Pocket Squares

At Ties R Us we stock a whole range of incredibly stylish ties, bow-ties, pocket squares and accessories, we cater for all types of personalities and colour themes so you’re bound to find something for you. When it comes to ties and pocket squares matching them up can be a tricky affair, but we’re here to tell you that mixing and matching pocket squares and ties in band on trend.
    Paisley & Solid Colour

Paisley style clothing has come right back into fashion over the past couple of years, as a sort of nod to 60’s and 70’s fashion. The style has crept into the world of ties and there has been some
stunning designs. A blend of rich and subtle colours makes a great paisley pattern, and we at Ties R We stock some incredibly stylish designs of paisley ties and pocket squares. Just because your tie is of a paisley design doesn’t mean your pocket square has to match, and vice-versa, try a matching solid colour, or even a contrasting solid colour if you want to make a statement, the pattern and block colour work incredibly well together.

    Polka Dots & Solid Colour

Much like the paisley design polka dots are and have always been right in style when it comes to ties and pocket squares. But we would recommend going for a solid colour tie and a polka dot pocket square rather than the other way round. The small amount of polka dots in the form of a pocket square is much more eye catching, especially with larger polka dots. Try to avoid larger polka dots on a tie as you could drift towards becoming too ‘wacky’, however smaller dots on a tie are always on trend and look great in any setting.

    BeFunky Collage

    Stripes & Spots

For a truly unique look, try pairing a striped tie with a polka dotted pocket square. The style is great for any formal situation, such as wedding or christenings, try both brighter and more subdued colours to find your perfect combination, also the bolder colours are great if you wanted to make a fashion statement.

    Contrasting Colours

Instead of the same pairing of traditional block colours together, why not think out of the box and mix and match contrasting colours? It’s very much up to personal taste with what colours you think you suit best, it’s always a great way to match to your personality or to even seasons/occasions; think green and reds for around christmas time for example.
