Colours For Spring

The frost is beginning to melt, days are slowly getting that little bit longer – it is officially nearly spring! Spring marks the transition from bare trees and cold winter days to the reintroduction of colour, whether this appears in the form of brighter days and blooming spring flowers or in our wardrobes. It is time to ditch the rich and earthy tones we love to wear over the autumn / winter months and look at the subtle pastels of spring.

Here at Ties R Us we have a vast array of ties that we think would be perfect to add that subtle pop of colour to any spring event. Whatever look you want to go for, from traditional to skinny or bow ties, we have it covered. Green

Move away from the earthy greens of autumn and the festive greens of winter and instead opt for a soft pastel or mint green. Our sage, mint or avocado ties are ideal for bringing a soft splash of colour to a formal outfit, and look especially good when paired with a grey suit.

Rose

Rose is a colour that is going to be huge in Spring 2016 – it is gentle, light and fashionable. Here at Ties R Us we have a perfect light pink paisley tie to bring you bang on-trend this season.

Lilac

Whereas purple is a colour that may be a touch too dark for a spring affair, its pastel counterpart lilac will work perfectly. It reflects the fresh, cool and clean elements of spring while still managing to bring colour to a more formal look. Try this subtly striped lilac tie, ideal for a spring wedding or christening!

Yellow

If you aren’t one for subtlety, yellow is one colour you can always get away with in spring. Daffodils, baby chicks, the sun; yellow is a spring colour that can definitely be worn bright! Our bright yellow tie is available in a variety of styles and is guaranteed to brighten up any outfit.

The Colours of 2016

With each year comes new colours of the year, something that is predicted to be big, and in 2016 it’s rose quartz & serenity. While we’re guessing many of you won’t be too sure what colour that is at Ties R Us we’re here to help! The apparent rose quartz & serenity is a blend of subtle pink and subdued blues, creating a colour that is perfect to immerse yourself in if you want to relax. As far as fashion and clothing is concerned it might be a bit difficult to get a rose quartz & serenity coloured tie, bow tie, cravat etc. So we’re giving our advice on similar colours which we think are going to work well in 2016, because what’s life without bending the rules a little bit…

In a year where subtle and pastel colours are clearly going to reign supreme at Ties R Us we’ve picked out a selection of some exceptional colours of ties that we think should definitely be part of your wardrobe for the year to come!

Pink

As rose quartz & serenity, the official colour of 2016, is a pink mix, a pale coloured pink is an excellent way to join in with the trend. The subtle pink colour works incredibly well when paired with a grey and dark blue suit. The fact that pink is for girls is very much a thing of the past, don’t be afraid to add a bit of pale pink to your outfit!

Light Blue

The other element to rose quartz & serenity is a sort of light blue, while we may not have a rose quartz coloured tie, a light blue one will work excellent in its place! A perfect colour for the spring season, and adds a real fresh look to any suit or shirt and trousers.

Purple

Another excellent pastel and relaxing colour. Very much going to be a prominent colour in 2016, a subtle purple tie is incredibly stylish, and the perfect choice for a wedding or christening! The warmth of the colour will work well in the coming warmer months and seasons.

Colours For Winter

Winter is well and truly on its way, the weather seems to be dramatically dropping and the nights are getting longer, so it’s about time you got into your comfy clothes and chilled! Or another way to look at it is Christmas will soon be upon us, and with Christmas comes an influx of parties. A lot of people will opt for the idyllic winter wedding, hoping for a perfect backdrop of a white wonderland, or many might want to have the christening of their latest around one of the holiest times of year, so are you and your formal wardrobe ready?

Depending on if you’re a bow-tie or a neck-tie person will obviously go for which look you’re after. Why not take a look at the colourings of all your ties and formal accessories and see if they might be a bit bright and warm for the winter months. At Ties R Us were all about using our expert knowledge to help you to customise your suit in the best of winter colouring, effortlessly creating an extremely stylish appearance ready for any events you may be going to.

Blue

A typical wintery colour, an ice blue tie or bow-tie can really stand out as an eye-catching feature. But why not try to mix and match blues, a darker blue tie with a powder blue or bright blue pocket square. Just because it’s a dark season doesn’t mean that everything you wear needs to be drab! Brighter blue is an excellent way to bring an outfit together, especially against a grey or dark blue suit.

Silver

Silver always has been and will continue to be a classy colour, guaranteed to add a touch of style to a formal outfit in the form of a tie. Gold

Try mixing it up and pairing it with a silver pocket square if you’re feeling brave!

The Best Colours For Autumn

Summer will soon be over and done with, meaning that your autumn wardrobe will be in effect. It is important to dress for the season and there’s a possibility that layers, scarves and boots are your everyday look. One thing that can dramatically change an outfit is the colours, and at Ties R Us we have created a guide for our customers to help them select colours that are fit for autumn. Here are just a few of the suitable colours to wear when it gets cooler.

Burgundy, purple and deep reds
A classic autumn colour, burgundy embraces a host of wonderful warm feelings that are ideal for the season. These colours are great to wear at formal events where you need to look smart, but also want to look like you’ve thought about your outfit.

Earthy greens
Opting for a green tie that mimics the Earth’s natural colours is a great way to autumn-up your outfit, contributing towards a fresh and fashion-forward appearance.

Woody browns
Autumn is the time where the leaves are known to fall off the trees, leaving them bare. Sporting clothes that are brown and reminiscent of wood in this season can add something unique to your look.

Soft yellow
As trees lose their leaves, the leaves often become yellow, associating the colour with the season autumn. Instead of choosing a bright, primary yellow, choose the warmer shades that remind you of leaves.

The Best Dressed ‘Gentlemen’ Film Characters

No matter what the genre, style or type of movie we see, it’s highly likely that it will be very closely linked to fashion. With professional stylists and costumed designers on hand, there are many outfits that inspire fashion today, so here are a few of our most favourite and well known groundbreaking styles.

James Bond
Renowned for his smart looks, impeccable appearance and skills with the ladies, James Bond is obviously a part of our countdown. While every single movie – from start to finish – includes outfits that are ‘on point’, we must admit that arguably the most famous outfit is the grey three-piece suit, fashioned by Roger Moore in Goldfinger. It’s endured many decades worth of changing styles and yet remains one of the most influential and in-style creations.

Jay Gatsby
The Great Gatsby was an immensely popular remake of the previous film version in 1974 and stars none other than Leonardo Dicaprio. As a character obsessed with keeping up appearances, the latest fashions and everything fun in life, it’s no wonder that he is a part of this list. Wearing the best quality suits – unique and border breaking – he’s the epitome of style and will be remembered for a long time.

Mr Darcy
As one half of the main characters in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, Mr Darcy is regarded as the archetype of a romantic hero. In the 1995 television adaptation, Mr Darcy is portrayed by Colin Firth – who also plays Mark Darcy in the Bridget Jones’ movies, which is based around the original novel – and is a wealthy gentleman in the 19th century. This is reflected in his style, where he fashions high-class clothing, true to his gentleman style.

Michael Corleone
In the Godfather trilogy, Michael Corleone – the main character – is portrayed by Al Pacino and, since the first movie in 1972, has been an icon in the fashion industry. Utilising 40s and 50s style, Corleone is the don of contemporary suits, choosing suits that are tailored to perfection to represent his power.

Mix And Match Ties & Pocket Squares

When it comes to ties and pocket squares matching them up can be a tricky affair, but we’re here to tell you that mixing and matching pocket squares and ties in band on trend.
Paisley & Solid Colour

Paisley style clothing has come right back into fashion over the past couple of years, as a sort of nod to 60’s and 70’s fashion. The style has crept into the world of ties and there has been some
stunning designs. A blend of rich and subtle colours makes a great paisley pattern, and we at Ties R We stock some incredibly stylish designs of paisley ties and pocket squares. Just because your tie is of a paisley design doesn’t mean your pocket square has to match, and vice-versa, try a matching solid colour, or even a contrasting solid colour if you want to make a statement, the pattern and block colour work incredibly well together.

Polka Dots & Solid Colour

Much like the paisley design polka dots are and have always been right in style when it comes to ties and pocket squares. But we would recommend going for a solid colour tie and a polka dot pocket square rather than the other way round. The small amount of polka dots in the form of a pocket square is much more eye catching, especially with larger polka dots. Try to avoid larger polka dots on a tie as you could drift towards becoming too ‘wacky’, however smaller dots on a tie are always on trend and look great in any setting.

Stripes & Spots

For a truly unique look, try pairing a striped tie with a polka dotted pocket square. The style is great for any formal situation, such as wedding or christenings, try both brighter and more subdued colours to find your perfect combination, also the bolder colours are great if you wanted to make a fashion statement.

Contrasting Colours

Instead of the same pairing of traditional block colours together, why not think out of the box and mix and match contrasting colours? It’s very much up to personal taste with what colours you think you suit best, it’s always a great way to match to your personality or to even seasons/occasions; think green and reds for around christmas time for example.

Lighter Colours For Summer

With summer finally here and the sun shining it’s about time to put away the darker shades and get out the lighter colours. With fantastic products available at Ties R Us we’re taking a look at which colours work well in the summer months.

Coral

It may take some work to pull off a coral tie, but the clean look certainly is a winner for the warmer months. We’d advise wearing a coral coloured tie in a prom or wedding setting, usually working well with a grey suit. Cream ties also look great as part of a the wedding ensemble, with the groom, best man and ushers all wearing the matching colour.

Mint

Mint coloured ties and bow ties come across as incredibly stylish and on trend, and go perfectly as a wedding tie. The contrast against a darker suit or white shirt really works well. Especially in the warmer weather, the mint colouring really gives off a summery feel and can be used to reflect a person’s mood. To give off an edgier, cool vibe try a mint bow-tie.

Peach

The quintessential subtle summer colour when it comes to ties and bow ties, it works great with whatever colour you put it with. In an array of different shades of peach, you can really customise your suit to how bright and bold of a peach colour you want, with different shades suited for different purposes. Try a lighter bolder shade for weddings, where a more toned down version for a formal parties, events and work.

Orange/Yellow

The bolder block colours of yellow and orange scream summer style. Ideal if your plan is to stand out or make a statement, these shades would work really well again within a wedding party. Paler shades of yellow and orange are not only the perfect representation of warm colours, but look superb when matched with the right colours such as greys and blues.

Obviously there are many more colours suited for summer wear out there these are just a few of our favourites. Don’t be afraid to go for ‘out-there’ colours that you usually wouldn’t mix with your smarter outfits and make them come alive, adding a splash of colour to black, white, blue or grey is never a bad thing!

The Gentleman’s Guide to a Perfect Suit

Collar

The suit collar should follow the shirt collar very closely – there should be NO GAP. The overlapping lapel should not raise and curve against the shirt, but lie flat at a straight angle.

Shoulders

Your suit should ALWAYS have perfectly tailored shoulders. If they end slightly before or slightly after your own shoulders the jacket will not look its best.

Buttons

If you are wearing a two button suit jacket then only the TOP button should be fastened. If you are wearing a three button suit jacket then the MIDDLE button should be the only one fastened. The fastened button should also never fall below the navel.

Jacket Length

Your knuckles should be even with the bottom of your suit jacket.

Shirt Sleeve Length

Between a quarter and half an inch of your shirt cuff should be visible after your suit jacket arms.

Suit Jacket Sleeve Length

Jacket sleeves should fall where the base of your thumb meets your wrist, not below, and not above.

Trouser Length

You should have around one inch of break falling over your shoes. Too much break looks sloppy and ill fitting, whereas too little break will show your socks or ankles.

Shoes

Navy Suits will great with black, brown, red/burgundy shoes.

Grey/Black Suits will also look great with black, brown, red/burgundy shoes.

Brown Suits will benefit from brown or red/burgundy shoes.
